ARTIST STATEMENT
The reason I make photographs is that I have been enamored by the natural world and the beauty within it for as long as I can remember. I am not only attempting to capture this beauty but also invoke an emotional response from the viewer. Other than to fulfill some personal need to artistically express myself my purpose for making photographs is awareness. If my work in some small way brings awareness of the incredible beauty of our world and the need to be wise stewards of it then I have been successful.
As far as this selection of photographs is concerned, who doesn’t enjoy looking at flowers? While it is hard to avoid the cliché I love photographing the intimate details of nature. I approach this type of photography the same way I do in making landscapes and nudes and consider them all to be apart of the natural world. They were made using both film and digital capture using available natural light.
