Jan’s watercolors offer a personal view point that celebrates nature and then abstractly reaches beyond the obvious. Her approach to subject matter utilizes a zoomed in detailed perspective to create her focused and intimate observations. While the observations are often based in nature the subjects are transformed into a stylized x-ray type vision that is singular to the artist. She incorporates her background in calligraphy and design with her brushwork edge quality added to sensuous organic forms. Watercolor is a precise yet reactive media, Heaton builds translucent veils of color that finger through thoughtful layers. Explosions of vivid color suggest impromptu and energetic rhythms over a more structured translucent matrix.
